Paul's Birdwatching - Megali Limni
Megali Limni is a wet agricultural area situated along the road from
Vatera towards Agiasos in the pine woodland. It is possible with care to
drive all the way around the area. Heading towards Agiasos take a left
turn just after passing Megali Limni onto a track which runs through the
woods alongside the farmland until you reach a wide pot holed gravel
track. At this point turn left and this track will eventually take you
back to the main Vatera road.
On the wet agricultural area both
White and Black Storks were viwed, Squacco Heron may be present and many
Nightingales were heard around its edges.
In the woodland Serin, Black-eared Wheatear, Short-toed Treecreeper
and a Lesvos star bird Krupers Nuthatch can be found quite close to the
main road along the lakeside track. Further along where the trees thin out
Woodlark were seen.
