Beaches
The island's beaches range from fine sand to chunky pebbles, but wherever you go the water it is startlingly clear, and for every beach that is provided with sunloungers, tavernas and water sports facilities, there is at least one that remains completely virginal.
Kokkari, with the cobbled lanes, impressive Byzantine churches and thick-walled old town houses is located 10 km from Samos town, on the northern part of the island. It nestles between two small protective headlands with crystal clear waters. It is popular with surfers, due to the suitability of the winds. A wind surfing school operates here, along with several small bars and cafes. Good tavernas and clubs make Kokkari the most lively and happening resort. Lemonakia beach is located on the north side of Kokkari. Tsamadou is a small beach with crystal blue waters 11 km north west of Samos. Psili Ammos is a long sandy beach of unique natural beauty, 56 km south west of Samos. Other well-visited beaches are Tsambou and Potami. On the south coast near Pythagoreion there are somr good beaches, but on the north coast the beaches of Mikro Setani and Megalo Seitani are considered the best.
