THE ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM is located along Romeikos Gialos at Myrina and is housed in a newly renovated two storey neoclassical building. It displays important exhibits from Neolithic to Roman times, which were discovered during the excavations by the Italian Archaeological School and by the K’ Ephorate of Prehistoric and Classical Antiquities. In the six rooms of the ground floor the findings from Myrina, Haephestia and Kavirio are exhibited, as well as base relieves, statuettes, pots and sculptures from the Archaic to the Hellenistic era. In the nine rooms at the first floor, one can admire findings from the excavations of Poliochni. Ancient objects brought over from the neighbouring island of Imvros are also exhibited here. The visitors to the Museum get detailed information on every single object, while drawings and photographs help the visitor to imagine every find in its archaeological context.
THE ECCLESIASTICAL MUSEUM is also located along Romeikos Gialos and is housed within the
Bishop’s Mansion. This impressive building was once the residence of Antonis Antoniadis, a wealthy Limnian living in Egypt. In 1911 he donated the building to the Ecclesiastical Authorities of the island, who subsequently used it to house the Museum. It displays Byzantine icons and religious objects from the churches of Myrina and the villages.
THE FOLKLORE MUSEUM at Portianou village is the only one of its kind on the island. It displays a number of authentic local artefacts in the traditional two-storey building.
