Birdwatching
To the east of the village of Kontopouli is the Gulf of Keros. Sand hills extend along the coast and the sea here is extremely shallow. A lake called Chortarolimni (= plant lake) is located between the village and the Gulf. The rainwater gathers here and many migratory bird species such as wild gooses, wild ducks, swans and woodcocks seek refuge in the area. Further up on the coast, Asprolimni, previously functioning as Salt Pans also attract large numbers of flamingos and other migratory species.
