LIMNOS (Lemnos)

Beaches

Limnos boasts more than one hundred beaches, most of which are sandy. Some of the more popular beaches have water sports facilities but the majority are tranquil and unspoiled.

Around Myrina there are three beautiful beaches awarded with the Blue Flags of the EU: Nea Madytos, Romeikos Gialos and Richa Nera. Below the Platis village (built on a hilltop close to Myrina), the Platis beach is located. It is a large sandy beach with several tourist lodgings, tavernas and bars. Not very far from there you can find the village of Thanos with its nearby sandy beach, considered as one of the best in the island. Further east on the road to the village of Kontias, we find the extensive and quite popular Nevgatis beach. To the north of Myrina, on the west coastline you can find the Avlonas and Agios Giannis beaches. Going further north past the villages of Dafni and Katalakkos, one can discover the remote but superb beach of Gomati, with the unspoilt area of the sand dunes. At the south east of the island, between Moudros and the small villages of Agia Sofia, Fisini and Skandali there are several beautiful sandy beaches. These include the Fanaraki and Xavouli beaches as well as the beaches of Parthenomitos, Skidi and Louri. Further up on the east coast the beach of Keros is one of the largest and most impressive in the island while the beach of Agios Stefanos, near the fishing port of Plaka is the most serene. To the centre of the island near the hamlet of Propouli is located the Agios Ermolaos beach.
