Ikaria is a green mountainous island, with rich forests of pine and cypress. It also has between its mountains, large fertile valleys, with groves of olive and fruit trees.

The island produces excellent olive oil, grapes, wine (dry red wine, famous since the Homeric era, called "Pramneian Wine"), raisins, nuts, almonds and delicious apricots. Ikaria is also renowned for its scented honey, its abundant fishing grounds, and its finest quality slate, which is exported.
