The island is 143 n.m. from Piraeus and 227 n.m. from the city of Kavala.
Ferryboats connect the island with Athens (8 hrs) and Kavala (20 hrs).
These connections and local hydrofoils also link Ikaria to several other islands, of which Patmos and Samos are the closest. Local boats link it with the small nearby islands of Fournoi, Thymaina and Agios Minas.
From the Airport of Ikaria there are flights to and from Athens (50 min). There are no direct flights from UK, but one can take a direct flight to Samos on Thursdays from Gatwick or Manchester (flight time 3 ½ hrs) and then take a ferry to Ikaria.
