Ikaria just like all the Greek islands has her "Panigiria", the traditional feast days that celebrate the Saints' name days and other religious holidays as part of community life.

They are celebrated amidst village surroundings, traditional food, live music, dancing, and plenty of delicious Ikarian wine. If you're planning a trip to Ikaria during the summer don't miss the unique opportunity to celebrate with the Ikarians

                  6^th – The Festival of All Saints Day at Katafigi

From the middle of July to the end of August, since the mid 1980’s festivities of literature and arts called Eleftheria are organized in various parts of Ikaria and Fournoi. These include a book fair, popular art, painting exhibitions, music and dance shows and recitation of folk poems.

Parts of the festivities take place at the square of Christos-Rachon. They include speeches, recitations, one act plays by Ikarian playwrights in the Ikarian dialect. The Agios Kirikos group of musicians and the dance groups of Agios Kirikos and Raches dressed in traditional costumes join in the festive atmosphere by playing traditional music and dancing folk dances from the island and the mainland, such as Ikariotikos, Sirtos, Pentozalis, Fisuni, Karagona, and others.
